Welcome to Opera
Not just Borrominian architectures and exhibitions of ancient and contemporary Art: at Eitch Borromini the weekly appointments with the Opera and its most loved pages also continue. Beautiful notes and wonderful voices, in the spaces of our rooftop ‘The Great Beauty’ overlooking the Eternal City from the Pantheon to the Saint Peter Papal Basilica, the restaurant of our Art Gallery - ‘Borromini Terrace’ - and the Innocentian Hall of the College with the same name in which we are located.
The Opera at Eitch
As our staying guests and visitors already know, we are talking about the musics of Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and Leoncavallo. About arias and duets that have made the history of Opera and that, from December 2023, see the ‘Italian opera singing’ in the UNESCO’s world heritage list.
A truly unique experience, born from the collaboration between Eitch Borromini and Roma Opera Omnia - a group of musicians, Art historians, set and costume designers who bring lyrical, sacral and ancient music in certain particular places of Rome’s Historical Center. As ours, part of the Pamphilj complex in the Baroque heart of the City, where the architectures of Borromini imbellished by the frescoes of Pietro da Cortona look at the Fountains of Bernini. And where the magic of these evenings - ‘Open Air Opera’ and ‘Opera Dinner’, in front of the unmistakable Roman skyline or candle light - is accompanied by a breathtaking view and by Italian flavours, for an experience that truly fills all senses.
The music at Navona Square
Next to us, the second part of the architectural Pamphilj complex: Saint Agnes Church. With its famous concave facade that “looms” over the Fountain of the Four Rivers, its twin bell towers – among the very few in Rome – and its dome, that our guests feel like they can almost touch. A place designed as a private chapel for the Pamphilj family and which today, in the Sacristy designed by Borromini, periodically hosts concerts of chamber or symphonic music arranged for piano and strings.
For those who would like to join us in May, the Sacristy will host the Baroque music of Vivaldi, Corelli and Boccherini, the Romantic of Schumann and Chopin, and the Classic of Mozart and Beethoven. In a space that, in addition to Beauty, enjoys - as ours – exceptional acoustics.
Our soirées
The aperitif at the ‘Borromini Terrace”, nestled between the dome and one of the Saint Agnes’ bell towers, includes - and it couldn’t be otherwise - a tour of our rooftop from which to admire the silhouettes of Saint Peter Basilica and Holy Angel Castle, the Pantheon and the spiral dome of St. Ive. Under the sign of Bramante, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Bernini and Borromini.
The dinner, in the exclusive Innocentian Hall, is instead by candlelight and - to the tune of the Opera before and during the courses – promises two Italian menus, selected wines and a final toast with the musicians.
Creating the magic so far, the soprano Paola Alonzi (unanimously defined as “magnificent”) and the tenors Antonino Ascrizzi, Angelo Forte and Fabio Serrani, accompanied by a young pianist - Tei Kim, student at Saint Cecelia Academy.
As Violetta’s friends would say, “let’s drink from the joyful cups” - in a place that has entered the History of Art, for an experience that our guests continue to define as unforgettable.
